  • Over 474 crore women passengers having availed themselves of the benefit across the State.


Child Labour in Karnataka:


  • 3 kids rescued from child labour every 2 days since 2021 in state. In total 2,589 children have been rescued from 2021 to April 2025.

  • The number children rescued has increased year on year.

  • In 2024 alone, 781 children were rescued from child labour

  • June 12 is International Day Against Child Labour.


Rise in Violent Crimes by Juveniles in India:


  • In 2022, 49.5% of juveniles apprehended were accused of violent crimes. In 2016, this was 32.5% — a steady increase over 6 years.

  • Definition of Violent Crimes Includes:


  • Rape

  • Murder / Attempt to murder

  • Bodily harm

  • Arson

  • Robbery and dacoity


  • Global trend reflects similar increase in violent behaviour among adolescents. UK: Share of juveniles in violent crime rose from 50% (2016) to 57% (2020).


Peak Power Demand in India:


  • India’s peak power demand has been rising and hit 241 GW on June 9, 2025.

Karnataka demands more funds under 16th Finance Commission award:


  • Karnataka Received just 3.64% share in the horizontal devolution under 15th Finance Commission (2020-21 to 2025-26).

  • This was less than what Karnataka received under the 14th FC - 4.71%. Due to this Karnataka state lost ₹62,098 crore in 15th FC.

  • Karnataka gets back only 0.29 paisa for one rupee it contributes to the Central pool of taxes, while Bihar gets back ₹7.06 and Uttar Pradesh gets back ₹2.73.

  • The Centre collects about ₹5 lakh crore annually in the form of taxes from the State, but Karnataka gets about ₹55,000 crore, including grants.

  • Karnataka seeks at least 5% share in horizontal devolution in 16th FC (Beginning from April, 1 2026).

  • Karnataka also demands that Centre must bring cess and surcharges from States under the divisible pool.

8% of all children worldwide are engaged in child labour: ILO report


  • Name of the report - Child Labour – Global Estimates 2024, Trends and the Road Forward

  • Total child labourers: 13.75 crore (137.5 million).  61% of them are employed in Agriculture. 56.8% of child labourers are boys (7.82 crore).

  • Youngest age group (5–11 years)

  • 5.4 crore children in child labour do hazardous work.


Trend since 2000:


  • Child labour has declined for both boys and girls.

  • Decline steadier among girls.

  • Only around 12% of India’s workforce is covered by formal pension schemes. Most of this is in formal/organised sector

  • Only protection for the informal sector is voluntary adoption under the National Pension System and Atal Pension Yojana.

Animal Husbandry and Anti Microbial Resistance (AMR):


  • Over 50% of global antibiotics are used in animal farming.

  • By 2030, antibiotic use in livestock projected to reach 200,000 tonnes.

  • WHO: deaths due to AMR infections may rise from 700,000 (2014) to 10 million by 2050.

  • Banned Antibiotics like chloramphenicol are used


India’s performance in Critical Tech - semiconductors, AI, biotechnology, space and quantum


  • A new index launched to assess the performance of 25 countries in these 5 critical technologies

  • Called - Critical and Emerging Technologies Index by Harvard-Kennedy School’s - Belfer centre for science and international affairs

  • India ranks 9th overall in the Critical and Emerging Technologies Index. India is placed in second tier along with countries such as Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, Taiwan, France, and Russia.

  • US China and Europe dominate all the sectors

Weak regional connectivity in South Asia:


  • Intra-regional trade in South Asia is just 5% to 7% of its international trade. In EU it is 45% and in ASEAN it is 22%.

  • Overall trade among SAARC countries is just $23 billion. As per United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), actual trade potential of South Asia (SAARC) is $172 billion, but currently it is just at $23 billion - 86% of its capacity remains unexploited.

  • South Asia with 25% of world’s population generates only $5 trillion in GDP. EU with 5.8% of the world’s population, accounts for $18 trillion in GDP.

  • Cross border trade in south Asia is very expensive - 114% of the value of the goods being exported - due to tariffs and duties.
